Exciting New Music Programs at NHHS!

Next year, we will be offering some exciting new programs here at NHHS! I am pleased to announce our new performance class, Modern Band! This class is designed for experienced musicians who can play guitar, bass, piano, and/or drum set. Another major change is the restructuring of our Jazz Ensemble and Advanced Orchestra. We are excited to announce that Mr. Allen and I will co-teach these two courses, which will both take place during 6th period. Zero-period Jazz will no longer be offered. We will combine students from these two courses into various ensembles, including String Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Big Band, Jazz Combos, and other chamber music groups accordingly. We seek advanced wind players who can participate in the Jazz Ensemble and the Symphony Orchestra. We hope to program major unabridged works, such as big band arrangements by Duke Ellington and symphonic works by Ludwig van Beethoven. 

Auditions are required for both the Orchestra and the Jazz Ensemble. All string players must audition for Orchestra, but they may also audition for the Jazz Ensemble if they wish to participate in both ensembles.  CLICK HERE for audition infoThe audition and application window is now open! The deadline for early enrollment consideration is May 18. Late submissions will be accepted in the fall.

Finally, to further enhance our program, we are pleased to announce the creation of the NHHS Music Department Board. This board will include student and parent leaders as well as our staff members. The following courses will require the election of both a student president and a lead parent:

• Vocal Ensemble 

• Advanced Orchestra
