BAND & COLOR GUARD

A student enrolled in the Band at North Hollywood High School is part of one of the finest performance organizations in LAUSD. The course fulfills the Physical Education graduation requirement, and Visual/Performing Arts graduation and college entrance requirement. In addition to providing students with essential musical skills, we believe that superior effort, self-sacrifice, and group cooperation are essential to achieving success. This experience often results in a positive change in students’ self-image, interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities. During fall the Band and Dance Team perform together to produce a field show for football games and marching band competitions. During the Fall the Dance team functions as the colorguard for the band. During spring the two groups work separately with the Dance Team producing a dance show while the Band works on Concert Band repertoire.

Band & Dance Team: About Us

WHAT TO EXPECT...

Students enrolled in the Royal Regiment Band and Guard have a very busy yet rewarding fall semester. The group begins rehearsing two weeks before the first day of school at our very own “Band Camp.” Students spend two weeks learning music, marching, and team work in order to establish a positive and supportive group environment.  Camp is mandatory for anyone wanting to join the team and is always held during the last two weeks of summer break (LAUSD). All Tryouts / Audition information is available below!

Band Camp is typically weekdays from 8:00pm – 3:30pm during the last two weeks of summer break.

Once school is in session the group continues to retain an intensive rehearsal schedule, meeting every Monday and Wednesday from 3:40pm – 6:00 pm. In addition, there are three to five Friday or Saturday rehearsals, each between four to eight hours long.

Performances include Friday night football games, occasional parades, and three field show competitions. Competitions are scheduled on Saturdays and take up most of the day. At football games, students stay on campus the entire day until the game is over. Before each game we organize group barbeques and bonding activities to foster healthy working relationships within the group.

Is it a lot? Yes! Is it worth it? Absolutely!! Students will leave with enhanced skills, along with memories and friendships to cherish forever!
